Every letter keeps one assigned star. Every name follows its own order through the same field.
How are these stars chosen?
STAR-02 searched candidate fields and fitted one global transform and one-to-one alphabet assignment. That apparent-sky assignment was then frozen. The website looks up each letter in this fixed map: it does not search, move, substitute, or optimize stars for an individual name.
The ideal mathematical path and the assigned real-star path are similar, not identical. “Show ideal path” draws the frozen mathematical projection as a dashed gold overlay; the solid paths always use the assigned catalogued star positions.
These are apparent positions on the sky, not a claim that the stars lie close together in physical space, form a recognized constellation, or give a name astronomical meaning.
A survey, not a generated backdrop.
The image is a Pan-STARRS DR1 optical i/r/g color composite, retrieved through CDS hips2fits. The 3072-pixel cutout was registered to the frozen coordinates before integration. All 26 assigned stars were checked against the image; the largest local centroid offset was under half a pixel at this display resolution.
The field, projection, and assignments are versioned as hyg41-sky-v1. This is a whole-field visual display, not precision astrometry, a live sky camera, or a naked-eye color photograph.
The image and mapping are served by this site. No name is submitted to an astronomy service; shared names remain in the URL fragment.
